TO CHOOSE A SPA HEATER SIZE: Determine the number of gallons your spa holds. Choose how quickly you want the spa to be ready to use, and match your spa's size and heating time with the appropriate model. The chart indicates the approximate time required to raise the spa temperature 30°F. For example, a model number 250 heater on a 600 gallon spa will take approximately 45 minutes to raise temperature approximately 30°F (depending on wind, insulation, etc.).
FUEL CONSUMPTION: To get an idea of fuel consumption, divide the heater's input in by the energy content of the fuel. For example, divide 400,000 (BTUs per hour input of a Model 400 heater) by 91,500 (BTUs in one gallon of liquefied propane gas (LP): 400,000 ÷ 91,500 = 4.37. Thus, a spa/pool heater with an input of 400,000 BTUs per hour will use approximately 4.4 gallons of LP gas per hour.

1 cubic foot of natural gas = 1050 BTU
1 gallon of liquefied propane gas = 91,500 BTU
OPERATING COSTS: Multiply fuel consumption by the price you pay for each unit of fuel. For example, if you pay USD $1.50 per gallon for LP and a Model 400 heater uses 4.4 gallons of LP gas per hour, then it will cost you approximately USD $6.60 per hour to operate.
